The Matildas - Australia's women soccer team

The controversial Australian women's soccer team calendar has been officially launched, featuring nude photographs of 12 of the Matildas squad.
The team hopes the calendar will lift the profile of the sport in the lead-up to next year's Olympics, but critics say it is too explicit. Matildas player Amy Taylor says none of the players regret their actions and it is for a good cause.
ABC VIDEO John Bell reports the nude calendar has started an Olympic controversy.
"We just find that we're not getting the media attention or the publicity that we deserve and we needed to do something to lift our profile," she said. "This is just something that we came up with and obviously there's been calendars done before and we just wanted to be a little bit different."
The release of the calendar could cause more problems for the Matildas. The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) says the word Olympic has been used, breaching a number of agreements.
The AOC has handed the matter to the Sydney Games committee's legal department for investigation. But Women's Soccer spokesman Warren Fisher says Olympic authorities approved the nude calendar. "We met with SOCOG, we wrote to them about what we were able to do in terms of Olympic properties, we got some go aheads from them, we went as far in every direction as were able to do," Mr Fisher said.
